March 24- 31, 2018 – In support of our ongoing partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Fair Food Program, we are proud to celebrate National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW). National Farmworker Awareness Week is a week of action to bring attention to farmworker issues in our communities such as fighting poverty and exploitation. The week also honors the important contributions farmworkers make to our daily lives.
We celebrate this week because, at Compass, safety, health, and environment come first. We never compromise on the health and safety of the people in our communities.
Compass Group partnered with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in 2009 and joined the Fair Food Standards Council upon its creation in 2011.
Follow us on social media this week as we share news from the field, resources, and how to get involved!
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is a worker-based human rights organization internationally recognized for its achievements in the fields of social responsibility, human trafficking, and gender-based violence at work. Built on a foundation of farmworker community organizing starting in 1993, and reinforced with the creation of a national consumer network since 2000, CIW’s work has steadily grown over more than twenty years to encompass three broad and overlapping spheres: The Fair Food Program, Anti-Slavery Campaign, and The Campaign for Fair Food. http://ciw-online.org/
The Fair Food Program
The Fair Food Program (FFP) is a human rights program that is designed, monitored, and enforced by the very workers whose rights it is intended to protect. From extreme poverty to sexual harassment and even modern-day slavery, farmworkers have faced abuses at work for as long as anyone can remember. The Fair Food Program is a truly new form of human rights program that can be called Worker-driven Social Responsibility (WSR). http://www.fairfoodprogram.org/
