In the U.S., the average child receives their first smartphone by the age of 11 and teenagers spend, on average, 10 hours a day in front of a screen between smartphones, desktops, laptops, tablets, and gaming devices. With those statistics, it is no surprise that cyber safety has become a primary concern for parents and schools coast to coast. To begin the cyber safety conversation in districts across the country, Chartwells K12 and partners Prevent Child Abuse America and Hampton Creek launched #JustStandUp – a social campaign to build allies among students.

As the leading wellness partner to school districts across the country, the team at Chartwells K12 doesn’t take its responsibility for nourishing the whole child lightly – and that includes both in and outside of the café, in real time and online.

Chartwells K12 first partnered with Prevent Child Abuse America in 2015 to educate school café teams on the reality of bullying in schools and empower each team member to be an advocate for positive, inclusive behaviors in the café.

In 2016, with school café teams engaging with students and school communities digitally through social media and menu apps, it was a natural progression for Chartwells and Prevent Child Abuse America to evolve the partnership to promoting cyber safety.

Throughout April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month, the partners hosted a joint blog series on ChartwellsK12.com to share real tips with students, parents, and educators on promoting positive digital citizenship and practical advice on what to do if you are being cyberbullied or engaged as a bystander.

To bring awareness to the video space where our students engage together, the team paired up with Hampton Creek to launch #JustStandUp. Headlined by a video, students, parents and community members were encouraged to watch and share with the #JustStandUp.

But the conversation doesn’t end there! Watch the video, share with your families, schools and communities. Utilize the resources on ChartwellsK12.com and start the cyber safety conversation.
